ML Open Stacks

It’s a part of the ML WTU where users are allowed to pick library items (journals and books) from the shelves by themselves. ML Open Stacks section is located: Level 2 – journals, magazines and books; Level 2A and Level 3 – books.

Online ordering

Most of the ML WTU collections can be ordered via the Internet after logging into your library account. These items have Hold option in our online catalogue. If you want to request them, click on Hold in the Request Option.

The ordering is impossible when you have reached the limit of possible loans or your library account is blocked. If the item is placed in the ML Open Stacks section, you will have to get it by yourself for it can’t be requested.

Time to collect the items

You can collect the requested item(s) when you see the date displayed on your library account.

Note that you must collect the item(s) from the library within 4 days from realizing the order for full-time students and 14 days for part-time students. The 4 / 14 days are counted from the day, when the information about realization of the order appears on your library account.

Place to collect the items

As WUT printed resources are stored in different localizations, you can collect the requested item(s) in the place where the item is stored.

It is very important to check the localization and the status of the item. In our online catalogue in Locations/Request tab you can find information about the localization of the books.

Reservation

Items that have been borrowed by other users can be requested via the Internet. If you do it, you will receive an email, when the requested item has been returned to the library.

Note that you must collect it within 4 days (full-time students or 14 days for part-time students).

Loans

Items can be borrowed from the Main Library by users with an active library account. See more: User authorization levels.

Detailed arrangements concerning the groups of users who can borrow from the ML and their authorization levels are defined in the Regulations.

Loan period

The loan period of books is indicated for each item in the library catalogue under the tab Locations/Hold under Due date/Status.

Once a book has been loaned, the due date will appear in your library account under Loans and also in the catalogue under the tab Locations/Hold under Due date/Status.

The library may ask for a book to be returned before the deadline in justified cases.

Loans limit

The status of the different user groups, the limit of borrowing outside WUT and the maximum single period of validity of the library account are listed in the table on the User authorization levels page.

The limit applies to all loans on the user's library account, regardless of their location (Main Library, its branches, faculty and institute libraries).

Other WUT libraries (faculty and institute libraries) may apply additional restrictions to the lending of their resources.

BiblioWawa Warsaw Reciprocal Borrowing Programme

Main Library of Warsaw University of Technology participates in the BiblioWawa Warsaw Reciprocal Borrowing Programme (SWW), under which registered WUT users can borrow library materials from affiliated libraries.

You can register to the system at the Students Lending Room (Main Building, ground floor, room 71)

Items not to be borrowed

Our collection is available to any user on site. The items with the online catalogue status: On the premises, Archival, Order to ML Journals, In reading-room are only available on site.

The items which may not be taken out of the library are: items from the ML ML Open Stacks with a red label and:

PhD and other degree theses

Engineering, bachelor and master theses that are not classified, have been defended after 1st July 2021 and for which the author has granted Warsaw University of Technology a licence to make them available in a closed library circuit, are made available electronically on terminals in Open Stacks (2nd floor, room 242a), Library of the Warsaw University of Technology in Plock and in faculty libraries (Architecture; Chemical and Process Engineering; Electronics and Information Technology; Physics; Building Services, Hydro and Environmental Engineering; Civil Engineering; Mechatronics; Power and Aeronautical Engineering; Automotive and Construction Machinery Engineering; Transport).

PhD theses since 1990, contained in the WUT Base of Knowledge, are made available electronically on terminals in Open Stacks (2nd floor, room 242a) and in faculty libraries (Architecture; Chemical and Process Engineering; Electronics and Information Technology; Physics; Building Services, Hydro and Environmental Engineering; Civil Engineering; Mechatronics; Power and Aeronautical Engineering; Transport). The chronological range of PhD theses made available in WUT BK will be gradually expanded.

Each WUT Main Library user who has a valid library account can access the WUT e-resources from any computer.

If you are using a computer in the WUT network, you don’t need to log in. If you are using a computer outside the WUT network, you will be asked to log in.

User ID – the number under the barcode on your library card
Password – the same which you use for your library account (no Capital letters or special Polish signs).

You can use as your ID (optional):

your student card number (the number under the barcode)
student’s album number
post-graduate student’s individual number preceded by the prefix "P-", e.g. P-6798
your library card number (the number under the barcode)
the library account number visible in the USOSweb in “My USOSweb” tab in the “User Information” section (concerning students and academic staff)

PASSWORD - provided during registration to the library

In order to recover your library password you can (optional):

do it remotely by using the Password Reset tool (to do this, you need to know your login and have access to the mailbox assigned to your library account)
appear in person in the Main Library (Students Lending Room, Open Stacks, Branches Libraries or Students' Halls of Residence Libraries). A valid student's ID is required.

ACCOUNT LOCKOUT

Account LockoutIf you keep a book past due date, your library account will be automatically blocked. You will not be able to order, borrow and extend borrowing periods for library items and the right to access the licenced electronic resources from any computer will be suspended. Moreover, you will be charged 0.30 PLN per day for each book.

In order to unblock your account you should:

bring back overdue books
pay the fine (if it is more than 5 PLN)

If the fine is less than 5PLN, you don't have to pay it at once. The library system locks the account when the fine is bigger than 5PLN.

Library card is a document which confirms yours eligibility to use the WUT Libraries.
Only the owner of the library card is authorized to use it.
The owner of the library card is required to notify the library of any changes in contact details provided during registration and when the card is lost or destroyed.
